The course is designed to build on previous skills and knowledge to enable you to act safely and take the correct preventative actions in all aspects of offshore operations from shore to vessel or WTG, and vice versa, both during normal operation and in emergency situations in offshore wind turbine environments.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of dangers and symptoms in relation to hypothermia and drowning.

  • Demonstrate understanding of the advantages and limitations of the different LSA, PPE and PFPE commonly used offshore in the wind energy industry and are able to don and use them accordingly.

  • Demonstrate safe transfer from vessel to dock, vessel to foundation and vessel to vessel

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the emergency and safety procedures on installations, vessels and WTG.

  • Demonstrate correct use of the relevant PPE e.g. harnesses lanyards, fall arresters and work positioning equipment. This includes correct identification of anchor points and correct ladder conduct.

  • Demonstrate correct use of evacuation devices.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of SAR and GMDSS.

  • Demonstrate recovery and first aid treatment of a “man over board”

  • Demonstrate evacuation from “WTG” to water by means of “Constant Rate Descender” Demonstrate individual and collective survival techniques at sea.

Pre- Requisites

The course can be physically demanding and to participate in the training you must be medically fit and capable of participating fully.  GWO stipulate that you must provide us with a copy of your valid, current medical certificate to participate on the course.

Other pre-requisites:

  • You must provide valid photographic ID such as a Passport or Driving Licence

  • You must be 18+

  • The course is run in English and as such you must have an appropriate level of fluency in order to participate.

  • You must produce a valid, current GWO Sea Survival certificate (GWO refresher courses at NWFTC must be completed before the expiry date of the previous certificate).

Equipment

  • Swimwear (Towel, swimming costume etc.) We have on site changing rooms and showers.

  • Reading glasses if required for any theory work.
