The course is designed to build on previous skills and knowledge that will enable you to continue to work at height in a safe manner in the wind industry and meet emergency response training requirements for personnel in the global wind industry. At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of hazards and risks associated with working at height specific to a WTG.

  • Demonstrate understanding of current national legislation regarding working at heights.

  • Demonstrate correct identification of PPE, including identification of European / Global standard markings e.g. harness, hardhat, lanyards etc.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to correctly inspect, service, store and don the relevant PPE e.g. harness, lanyards, fall arresters and work positioning equipment.

  • Demonstrate correct use of the relevant PPE e.g. harnesses lanyards, fall arresters and work positioning equipment, this includes correct identification of anchor points and correct ladder conduct.

  • Demonstrate correct use of evacuation devices.

  • Demonstrate how to approach rescue situations on a WTG and use rescue equipment efficiently.

Pre- Requisites

The course can be physically demanding and to participate in the training you must be medically fit and capable of participating fully.  GWO stipulate that you must provide us with a copy of your valid, current medical certificate to participate on the course.

Other pre-requisites:

  • You must provide valid photographic ID such as a Passport or Driving Licence

  • You must be 18+

  • The course is run in English and as such you must have an appropriate level of fluency in order to participate.

  • You must produce a valid, current GWO Work at Height and Rescue certificate (GWO refresher courses at NWFTC must be completed before the expiry date of the previous certificate).

Equipment

  • Appropriate clothing to climb in ( we advise loose clothing which does not hinder your movement)

  • Any clothing appropriate to weather conditions (our training facility is exposed to the elements. Warm waterproof/windproof jackets are recommended.)

  • Safety footwear

  • Gloves (Close fitting)

  • Safety Eyewear

We have a selection of gloves and eyewear at our centre for your use if you do not have your own.

You are able to bring your own PPE other than that provided by NWFTC. You must provide a signed self-declaration stating that the equipment is in good condition and relevant inspections are up to date. NWFTC withholds the right to refuse use of equipment if it fails visual inspection.
